At Bright Starts Pediatrics, we know that an ADHD diagnosis is just the beginning.
For many families, medication becomes an important part of helping children and teens manage symptoms and thrive at home, in school, and beyond. We offer thoughtful, individualized ADHD medication management guided by research and rooted in care.
Medication management is ongoing medical care that helps children and teens with ADHD find the right medication, dose, and treatment plan for their unique needs.
It goes beyond writing a prescription. Medication management means regular check-ins, careful monitoring, and adjustments over time to make sure treatment is working and side effects stay minimal.
At Bright Starts, we partner with families every step of the way.
Our approach starts with understanding your child as a whole person, not just a diagnosis.
Here's what the process looks like:
Initial consultation to review your child's ADHD diagnosis, medical history, and current challenges
Discussion of medication options, including benefits, risks, and what to expect
Starting with a carefully chosen medication and dose
Scheduled follow-up visits to assess response, side effects, and progress
Ongoing adjustments as your child grows, school demands change, or new concerns arise
We stay connected with families between visits and coordinate with therapists, teachers, and other providers when needed.
At Bright Starts Pediatrics, medication management involves:
Comprehensive review of your child's diagnosis, history, and current functioning
Education on how ADHD medications work
Individualized medication selection based on your child's needs and lifestyle
Monitoring for common side effects like appetite changes, sleep issues, or mood shifts
Dosage adjustments to find the right balance
Coordination with behavioral therapies and school supports
Regular follow-up appointments to track progress over time
We take a neuro-affirming approach, recognizing that medication is a tool to support your child, not change who they are.
At Bright Starts Pediatrics, we offer medication management because:
Research shows medication combined with behavioral support leads to the best outcomes for many children with ADHD
Every child responds differently, and ongoing monitoring helps us fine-tune treatment
Families deserve guidance from providers who specialize in pediatric ADHD care
We believe in transparent conversations about risks, benefits, and alternatives
We want your child to succeed at home, at school, and in life
Our goal is never to medicate for the sake of it. Our goal is to give your child tools that help them focus, learn, and feel confident.
Medication management at Bright Starts is available for:
Children diagnosed with ADHD (ages 5 and up)
Teens needing support through middle school, high school, and beyond
Young adults transitioning to adult care
Children with co-occurring conditions like anxiety that may affect treatment decisions
If your child has already been diagnosed with ADHD, or if they received a diagnosis through Bright Starts, we can help you decide if medication is the right next step.
Initial Consultation: We review your child's diagnosis (or test for ADHD using the Qb Test), medical history, current symptoms, and treatment goals. We discuss medication options and answer your questions.
Starting Medication: If you decide to move forward, we prescribe a starting dose and explain what to watch for in the first few weeks.
Follow-Up Visits: We schedule regular check-ins to monitor progress, address side effects, and adjust the plan as needed.
Ongoing Support: As your child grows and their needs change, we continue to partner with you to keep treatment on track.
We understand that deciding to try medication can feel like a big step.
At Bright Starts Pediatrics, we never rush families into decisions. We provide clear information, answer every question, and support whatever path feels right for your child.
Medication management is not about fixing your child. It's about removing barriers so they can show the world who they already are.
Medication management is ongoing care that includes prescribing, monitoring, and adjusting ADHD medication over time. It ensures your child receives the right medication at the right dose with the fewest side effects.
There are two main categories: stimulants and non-stimulants.
Stimulants like methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta) and amphetamines (Adderall, Vyvanse) are most commonly prescribed and work quickly to improve focus.
Non-stimulants like atomoxetine (Strattera) or guanfacine (Intuniv) may be used when stimulants aren't a good fit or when there are concerns like anxiety or tics.
Medication isn't right for every child. It's often considered when ADHD symptoms significantly affect learning, friendships, or daily functioning despite other supports.
We'll help you weigh the options and decide what makes sense for your family.
Common side effects can include decreased appetite, trouble sleeping, or mood changes. Most side effects are manageable with dose adjustments or timing changes.
We monitor closely, especially in the early weeks, and make changes as needed.
In the beginning, we schedule visits every few weeks to monitor response. Once your child is stable, visits will be every 3 months.
We're always available between appointments if concerns come up.
